What is Tofu?
What exactly is tofu and why is it a great choice?
Tofu is a plant-based food made by curdling soy milk and pressing it into solid blocks. Mild in flavour with a smooth texture, it’s celebrated for its versatility and nutritional value. Rich in protein and low in saturated fat, Tofu readily absorbs marinades, spices, and sauces, making it a staple in a wide variety of dishes. From stir-fries and curries to salads, scrambles, and even desserts.
Originating in ancient China, Tofu has long been a key ingredient in East Asian cuisine, eventually spreading to countries such as Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Since the 1970s, it has also gained popularity in the West, especially among vegetarians and vegans seeking a nutritious alternative to meat. Today, Tofu is widely recognised as a sustainable, protein-rich option for those looking to embrace a more plant-based lifestyle.

Tofu: A healthy Alternative
Made from just three simple ingredients soybeans, water, and calcium sulphate (a naturally occurring mineral) Tofu is low in saturated fat and a good source of iron, which helps carry oxygen around the body.
It also provides a range of essential vitamins and minerals, including magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, and potassium. All of which are vital for healthy muscles, nerve function, and immune support. Tofu is rich in B vitamins such as B1, B2, and B6, which contribute to energy production, healthy skin, and a well-functioning nervous system. It also contains vitamin K, important for strong bones, and vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant.
What sets Tofu apart is its impressive content of plant-based protein. It contains all nine essential amino acids, making it a complete protein, similar to animal-based sources. With 8-16g of protein per 100g, tofu is a fantastic option for athletes, vegetarians, and vegans looking to boost their protein intake in a healthy and sustainable way.
How is our Tofu made?
Our Tofu is crafted from high-quality European soybeans using a process similar to traditional cheese-making. While rennet is added to milk to create cheese, Tofu is made by turning soybeans into soy milk, then adding calcium sulphate – a natural mineral – to gently set it into a firm block.
Sustainable and Responsible
At Vivera, we understand the concerns about soy production and its impact on deforestation. However, it’s important to note that the deforestation commonly associated with soy is primarily linked to soy grown for animal feed.
The soy we use in our tofu does not come from tropical rainforests. We intentionally choose to work with farmers who practice sustainable cultivation methods, and our soy is certified organic. This ensures that we offer a product that is both healthy for you and kind to the planet.
Vivera’s Quick Marinating Firm Tofu:
Inspired by the viral TikTok trend of freezing tofu to improve its texture and boost flavour absorption, Vivera has brought this clever kitchen hack to the masses in a convenient twin-pack format (2 x 200g). Perfect for quick, healthy, and delicious meals.
When tofu is frozen, the water within its structure expands and forms ice crystals. As it thaws, these crystals leave behind tiny holes and pockets, changing the texture and making the tofu firmer, spongier, and more porous.
This allows the tofu to absorb marinades, sauces, and spices far more effectively — taking on deeper, richer flavours in a fraction of the time. We’ve done the freezing for you, so our tofu absorbs marinades in just five minutes, enhancing both taste and texture.
Our Quick Marinating Firm Tofu is incredibly versatile. Whether you’re tossing it into a speedy stir-fry, air-frying for a crispy finish, breading it for extra crunch, or scrambling it for a satisfying breakfast or lunch, the possibilities are endless.
Maximum flavour, minimal effort.
