The Hunger Project
Vivera invests in the work of The Hunger Project in Ethiopia, specifically focusing on the restoration of the Gewocha forest. The Hunger Project is an international non-profit organization dedicated to a clear mission: a world without hunger.
Together with the local residents around the Gewocha forest, they aim to restore 10,000 hectares of degraded forest over the next 10 years. This restoration effort is being conducted in collaboration with WeForest and, most importantly, with the involvement of the local community. The goal is for them to take charge of the thriving future of the Gewocha forest and its inhabitants, working alongside their local government.
Willem van Weede, CEO of Vivera, about this partnership with The Hunger Project: “It is crucial to feel visibly responsible for the food chain, beyond the products you buy and sell. Food is a fundamental global issue.”
And why is this particular project valuable to Vivera, according to Willem? “The Hunger Project not only focuses on empowering people and combating soil erosion through reforestation. The residents also get the opportunity to establish a food forest on their lands, enabling them to access better nutrients and earn extra income. This provides them with a viable alternative to relying on livestock farming for their meat. It aligns with Vivera’s values.”
ProVeg
Vivera works in partnership with ProVeg. ProVeg is an international organisation dedicated to plant-based food. ProVeg is working worldwide to reduce the consumption of animal products, the goal being a 50% reduction by 2040. ProVeg works with governments, private companies, public institutions, and medical professionals, and has a support base of hundreds of thousands of consumers worldwide. Proveg developed the Veggie Challenge app, which Vivera embraced to help more people make the switch to plant-based food
Green Protein Alliance
The Green Protein Alliance is working on getting us to return to a diet where vegetables play the lead role. This process is also called the protein transition. Vivera is a member, as we obviously support this. We want to make it easier for everyone to choose vegetables more often!
